You wouldn’t think that one day would make that much difference. But a thirty day month always seems to fly on by before you know it.
Perhaps it is the fact the thirty is an even number. Half of the month is fifteen days, a third is ten, and one-sixth of the month is a mere five days. You just can’t break up a thirty-one day month like that!
I always wonder who decided what month would have thirty days and why? To me it would have made more sense to have chosen the equinox and solstice months. But for whatever reason Pope Gregory XIII approved our current calendar and it has worked just fine since 1582.
Real estate agents are particularly sensitive to the mnemonic rhyme because we want to make certain that calendar dates exist when we insert them in a contract. I think that all of us have mistakenly used June 31 at one time or another in our careers!
I don’t remember ever having put February 29th on a document.
But the door is open to do so right now!
