With the finalization of the sale of the Omni Mall in Miami to the Genting Group the door is now open for the possible start of gambling in South Florida outside of parimutuals and tribal. This group has guts in a world gone awry. For them to take a chance like this is above and beyond anything the feds or state will ever do.
They want to put people back to work, and with 12.5% unemployment in Miami-Dade County it's a mega start. Genting has already invested millions of dollars into the mall, the Miami Herald, and a smaller piece for parking. If approved by the governor, this will immediately put 5,000 people to work now and 30,000 when completed! Talk about a shot in the arm.
The new gambling development proposed will be called Resorts World Miami and will also host conventions among other businesses. This has touched off such a spark that Wynn, the Sands, and Caesars have all hired lobbyists in Tallahasses to feel out its possibilities

. Opera House
Commercially, downtown Miami is not what it used to be. This would change everything. The condo market had a premonition when it started building like crazy there, but it needed commercial to come in and fill it out more. Right now there is NBA basketball and an opera house in the area, but that is not enough. Gambling will be an every day event bringing in people from all over the world.
To me, this is a no brainer. It may be the only thing that can save South Florida's sagging economy. Our only real industry is tourism, so imagine how much this would help. Instead of going to Vegas to gamble tourists can come here and hit the beach as well. Governor Scott would become a hero overnight in an area that is starving for one.
