NYSERDA''s Appliance grant Program For Hurricane Irene Victims
For those that were effected by Hurricane Irene, you'll be happy to know that as of September 19 the New York state Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is offering grants, for replacement of damaged appliances as a result of the hurricane. The grants are being awarded on a first come first serve basis for as long as the 8 million dollars allocated for the program lasts.
Besides, the standard household appliances (refrigerator, washer, dryer) monies can be used towards the replacement of boilers, furnaces and dehumidifiers effected by the flood. Replacement needs to be with ENERGY STAR rated items - or in the case of no energy star replacement, with high efficiency units - in order to qualify for the rebate. Depending on the appliance and the rating, the amount granted will range from $100 to $2500. If the appliance purchased exceeds the allowable cap for the item, the program will reimburse you an amount up to the cap.
Applications for NYSERDA's program are available online or if you prefer you can call 1-877-697-6278 for more information. Rockland residents can visit the FEMA disaster recovery center to get the particulars, as well.
