Explore Keauhou Bay - Kailua-Kona, HIKeauhou Bay

One of my favorite places in Kailua-Kona is Keauhou Bay. This picturesque little bay is always both peaceful Keauhou Bay and yet bustling with activity. Every morning Keauhou Bay awakens to fishermen and scuba divers launching their boats for the days adventure, kayakers gathering for their morning tour and walkers pacing past.  The Fairwind catamaran snorkel tour departs from Keauhou Bay twice a day taking snorkelers to the Capt. Cook monument in historic Kealakekua Bay where the reef is a national underwater preserve. Keauhou Bay is also home to the Keauhou outrigger Canoe Club, which competes in races throughout the Hawaiian Islands and Pacific. The Manta Ray night dive also takes place in the bay where these gentle and graceful giants feed on plankton as snorkelers and divers watch.

Prior to European contact, Keauhou Bay and surrounding areas was the home of the Alii or ruling class. It was considered Kapu or taboo place to commoners. Today everyone is welcome to visit Keauhou Bay.  So, if you are looking for a place to explore, head on down to Keauhou Bay and see whats happening.

Hi Richard-

Wow, another great video; you're becoming quite the pro. Question: are you using your iPhone, or a video camera?

Keep up the good work!

Hi Sylvia,

Funny that you asked. I was using my Droid X to film my paddleboard videos and being very careful to keep it dry.  It worked great until a rogue wave got it a little wet. After that, the camera started turning on in the middle of the night, taking pictures, and doing wierd stuff.... RIP Droid X.  I recently bought a Kodak Playsport waterproof camera and it works great above and below the water. I also picked up an I Phone 4 to replace the Droid and I love it too. This morning I filmed a paddleboard adventure on Kailua Bay and it was beautiful. I'll post it today. I'm glad you like the videos, i'm having fun making them.

Take care,

Richard
