12-3 pm - WNCA Transportation Workshop : Transportation planner Don Kostelec, AICP, Senior Transportation Planner noted for his work on Integrating Green Infrastructure into Regional Planning reveals the mysteries of transportation planning, explains how local and regional transportation planning work together, and discusses with participants how citizens can best engage in and influence the process.
1-8 pm - Burton Street Agricultural Fair: Join the bike caravan to the Burton Street Agricultural Fair. Here is a wonderful and promising example that a community can retrofit existing housing for energy efficiency, plan for a private/public partnership, place PV solar panels on the a Community Center, and on how your choices for going organic and buying local can mean real progress.
3-11 pm - College Flip the Switch at UNCA: Next the caravan of cyclists will move on to the UNCA campus where ASHE (a student environmental group) is having a music fest and concert of talented, local musicians young and old interspersed with informative speakers and side acts. A silent auction and optional donations will go to support the Southeast Student Renewable Energy Conference(SSREC), an event taking place at UNCA in November. During the evening a community supper will be held to build connections, while enjoying one another’s company.
