Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy UT

9266 S State St, SANDY UT, 84070

Rio Tinto Stadium is the home of Real (Ree - ahl) Salt Lake, a Major League Soccer Club.

The Stadium is described as a state of the art sports and entertainment facility. It was designed as a soccer-specific stadium, opened 10/09/08. It holds 20,008, all with excellent views of the pitch.

I live less than a half mile from the Stadium. On nights when Real Salt Lake is playing, traffic takes on peak aspects. Delighted fans surge from the Historic Sandy Trax station. and sidewalks become a sea of supporters' jerseys and scarves.

Fans come from surrounding States, often staying overnight. Last Saturday about fifty visitors from St Petersburg, Russia, enjoyed a win by their team, Real Salt Lake, 1 - 0.  I know their elation, as I spent many hours with them after the game, still sporting their RSL scarves and caps.

The pitch can be converted to a Rugby field when necessary.

Rio Tinto Stadium is a modern Sandy UT landmark, destined to take this city into the future in sport.

My special thanks to John Koluder, Assistant Director, Soccer Media Services, for his valuable time in showing me the Stadiums facilities. I was specifically looking for disability access. It is bountiful.

Not many soccer-specific stadiums in the United States. Most teams play in baseball parks or football stadiums. Nice to enjoy sports in a proper venue! Enjoy your day!

Hi Larry,

I enjoyed your post and when I saw, "Chicago Fire," my heart fluttered with joy! I was born and raised there. I just love it when people take an interest in their communities and you definitely do that well! Sandy, UT has to be a wonderful place to live just because of people like you!
