Realtor® and a Real Estate Agent, what is the difference?

Most people make the assumption that Real Estate agents and Realtors® are one in the same, when in fact they are very much different.

Real Estate Agents have undergone the very basic of licensing pre-requisites.  They have there license to sell and that is it.

Realtors® on the other hand are not only licensed real estate agents, but are members of the National Association of Realtors®.  This membership provides Realtors® with powerful tools and information, which enables them to better handle there Real Estate market.  Including but not limited to sales trends- the number of days a particular property was on the market, sales price, properties currently for sale.  All that useful information can be used cumulatively to better determine the value and sales price of a home.  Which I firmly believe will help stabalize the nations Real Estate market, and help a homeowner sell for top dollar.

The most significant difference between the two is considerably important in today's Real Estate Market, where Short Sales have increased.  This increase has undoubtedly opened the door for unscrupulous individuals.

A REALTOR® holds ethical conduct in the utmost regard.

I never thought about the distinction between the two before.  One of the keys to success in my mind is continued on going education about this constantly changing market.
