Work might be slow and or mundane for many of us during this difficult economy and sometimes it may even seem difficult to keep pressing forward but every now and then it seems someone is put into our life to inspire us. This happened to us recently on a home inspection in oceanside CA where we walked away truly inspired..... We'd just like to share our experience in hopes that it might inspire someone else.
The other day we did a Home Inspection for a couple in Oceanside. The husband was a United States Marine and loved the fact that we were prior military ourselves, Brian served in the Navy, and offered a military discount. Being an ex-military Home Inspector and contractor, we always look forward to working with and meeting our service men and women. After talking with them for awhile and walking through their new home together, he shared his inspiring story with us
He and his wife had a special reason for purchasing this house. Yes this would be the place that Jeff and Tanya would hopefully start their family but there was more.
You see, two years ago he was deployed to Iraq. While on patrol his Humvee was hit by an IED (improvised explosive device). Jeff was sitting in the passenger seat on the side of the explosion and suffered a traumatic brain injury as well as shrapnel. He almost died and was very lucky to be alive but he would spend the next year in the hospital undergoing several surgeries along with therapy and rhab for re-learning how to walk and talk. He still has partial paralysis on his right side and suffers from some memory loss. We had an instant connection because Brian suffered a skull fracture and subdural hematoma in January with some of the same lomg and short term effects.
Towards the end of the home inspection Jeff and Tanya explained that they needed to move closer to Camp Pendleton and San Diego because today he is cycling for the Marine Corp cycling team and this was where he needed to be to train with his team. After all this Marine had been through, he never threw in the towel, he never used it as an exuse to not push forward and just give up! He stood his ground and fought the good fight and now he is buying a new home with his lovely wife, starting a family and cycling with the Marine Corp cycling team! Well our difficulties seemed just a little less severe after meeting Jeff and this home inspection turned out to be a family inspiration for us. Not only did it make us want to keep pressing on and put our problems in perspective but it reminded us of all the men and women who serve our country, some paying the ultimate price, to provide us with our freedom and the American way of life.
We want to take a moment to thank Jeff and Tanya and all the veterans and active duty military men and women for your service. We are truly grateful.
