For the avid golf enthusiast, Westchester County, NY abounds in golf courses. There are six public courses and, at last count, 59 private golf clubs. The largest and newest of the public courses is Hudson Hills. According to Golf New York Magazine, many of the private club members frequent Hudson Hills on Monday nights when their own clubs are closed. They even buy a Westchester Park pass to get discounted rates!
The private clubs can range from more informal family friendly clubs, to the larger, more formal private clubs that are by invitation only.
A sampling of the sites that are visible online are: Westchester Hills in White Plains (one of the oldest courses and family friendly), Scarsdale Golf Club and Quaker Ridge in Scarsdale, HollowBrook Country Club in Cortlandt Manor, Whippoorwill Country Club in Armonk, Mt. Kisco Country Club in Mt. Kisco (this site gives a detailed course tour), Westchester Country Club in Rye and Trump International in Briarcliff Manor. Westchester Country Club offers some reciprocal relationships with several golf country clubs across the country and has one of the most beautiful views from its pool on the Long Island Sound. Trump International also has reciprocal relationships with their other Trump national golf courses.
Of course Westchester also houses Winged Foot in Mamaroneck where Phil Mickelson lost to Geoffrey Ogilvy in the 72nd hole at the U.S. Open in 2006.
