Why would I want to print using Google Cloud Print ?

I would like to share a post from a colleague of mine, Bob Bonnett. He recently wrote on how he sees Google Cloud Printing simplifying his life.

Bob Bonnett

OK, I like technology stuff that is cool and makes my life easier.  Still I had to ask myself "Why would anyone want to print from the Cloud?"  Well I recently experienced a situation where I could have certainly leveraged this new print technology.

I was visiting a friend's office last Friday and as lunch hour came we decided to continue meeting over a meal at a local restaurant.  I remembered I had a half off coupon in my email that we could use.  To print it out I had to borrow my friends PC and log into my email and print it out.  I did it but it was not very convenient.  If I had the ability to cloud print, I could have simply printed the coupon on my friends Kodak printer directly from my smart phone.  This would have been much faster and less intrustive into our conversation.

It is true that more of us are on the go and "smart devices" have allowed us to bring information resources with us wherever we are.  We attend meetings in our cars.  We meet clients on their turf more than ever before.

Now Cloud Printing has brought us more flexibility and efficiency.  Say for example you are away from you office making rounds with clients.  Thoughout your day, you can send documents, pictures, forms and brochures to your printer.  They will be ready for you when you do get to your desk.  You are more efficient because you don't need to remember what you were doing earlier and re-open the things you needed to print.  You just got yourself more of those minutes we all need more of.  For me that is the value of Cloud Printing.

All KODAK HERO All-in-One Printers are Google Cloud Print ready.  Kodak has additionally made product updates available so all of its prior generation printers can use this service too.  All Kodak printers also have the power of KODAK Email Print Service, an intelligent service that will allow you to send emails and attachments to your KODAK AiO printer from anywhere, using any email account.  With Kodak Email Print Service you can even share your printer's unqiue email address with others so you can receiveprinted files or photos.

I am convinced.  I can print on the go.  These features are easy to use and will make me more productive.  That ultimately gives me some of my personal time back so I can have more fun.  To learn more, visit www.kodak.com/go/cloudprinting

This really isn't new. I have been doing this for a few years now actually. I have an HP Photosmart printer with ePrint service and also has the ability to print from the Google Cloud services. I originally started taking pictures of my kids and sending them to my parents printer who lived 4 states away. I have had clients that have had connected printers that allowed me to send them photos of properties they were interested. I would also send them proofs and brochures that way also. It really isn't that much different from say emailing someone a picture and they would then print it out. Just this is more automated in the sense that you just send it to a printer and they don't need to be there to do the work of printing it themselves. Great share!

My HP printer allows me to send a text to it from anywhere in the world...when i come home.. my copy is already done... If you have a HP printer that allows that i can print to yours too... very cool.. you just need to have the code to send it out.

I don't use it for business much, more for fun.

I have been using a tool on my mac for similiar functionality.  I really need to take a few hours today just to understand this cloud thing.  I can't believe how I myself an ex CIO could be so far behind the technology curve.

Yesterday I used Visio to map out the process and procedure of lead management for our internet leads.  It was a refreshing process, but still can't believe how far I have gotten behind.  Time to start reading INFOWorld again
