I don't necessarily agree with our presidents medical policy affectionately named "Obama care", but in a sense it is a step towards helping all Americans gain access to health care. Even without a health plan, if you go to a hospital emergency room you wil get a "level" of treatment.
I understand this, but now I am involved in a situation that is very frustrating and American medicine is failing me and my mother.
On Tuesday I wrote about having a bad day and part of the reason is I took my mother to a local hospital's emergency room for severe stomach and/or lower abdominal pain. She was in the emergency room for 13 hours and then admitted and placed in a room. Since then the health care she has received has been excellent, except for the fact we really don't know anymore than when she was first admitted.
Part of the problem "may" be that she has really good health care options. At 78 years old she is on Medicare and she has what is called "Tri-Care for Life". My dad was career military and with her being his dependent, she gets full coverage care as a supplement to Medicare for the rest of her life. Great for me and my two brothers as we don't have to worry about a medical situation wiping out my mother's financial situation and or being any sort of burden on ourselves.
But after being hospitalized for 5 days now, numerous tests with no significant results, we have no idea what the problem may be with her. I am beginning to wonder if the fact that the hospital and her doctors realize, that one or the other of the two federal programs will pay 100% of anything they bill, is having an affect on her being still hospitalized with no diagnosis and no treatment plan.
