Ward Parkway Shopping Center Has New Updates Coming - Including the AMC Movie Theater

Ward Parkway Shopping Center Kansas CityThough they are among the most popular theaters in the Kansas City Metropolitan area, AMC Ward Parkway 14 Theater in the Ward Parkway Shopping Center is getting updated! Located on 86th & Ward Parkway (and on the west side at 86th & State Line Rd.), this was the first multiplex to be developed by the company almost 50 years ago, though they’ve been at this location since 1991. The company also has signed a new 10 year lease for operation with a 5 year option.

AMC said it will spend close to $4 million to renovate the theater. So, what changes can we expect to our local theater? Leather recliners in each auditorium, updated restrooms, lobby, state-of-the-art digital projection systems, etc. I can’t wait!

Also, remember that late this summer the Ward Parkway Shopping Center announced the opening of the much anticipated Trader Joe’s. I notice a full parking lot on my daily drive by. An agent that I work with made her first foray into Trader Joe’s one afternoon and fell in love! She loves the cheeses and always finds something new to tell us about.

Another recent change at the 50 year old Ward Parkway Shopping Center includes the demolition that was started late August on the old Dillards parking lot at the south end of the mall.

This summer, our newly elected Kansas City Council approved a special taxing district to finance the $24 million makeover for Ward Parkway Center. So, the Community Improvement District (CID) will enable the mall to levy a 1 percent sales tax. The money will help pay for the Dillard demolition and add new store space and new landscaping.

Here is the directory of the stores and restaurants in the Ward Parkway Shopping Center. Luckily, we have some great stores and restaurants close by. With the renovations, I’m happy that the owner, Chicago based Cornerstone Real Estate Advisors, and property managers, Red Development are investing back in “our” neighborhood mall. Let’s shop, neighbors!
