Paying It Forward: The Kittens Are Ready For Their New Home!
Friday was the day. After close to three months since first having a stray cat bring her three little kittens out from under our deck, we've been working towards finding them a new home.
We captured mom, the three kittens (Cleo, Copy & Paste) and eventually dad cat too. We took them all to a local cat rescue clinic Ohio Alleycat Resource (OAR) in Cincinnati to get spayed/neutered, shots and parasite treatments, then brought them back home.
Initially we just expected to do the trap and release (TNR). And ultimately that is what we did with mom & dad cat. Perhaps after many months of work we might have gotten mom cat tame enough to be an indoor cat, but dad cat is definitely on the more feral side.
OAR did tell us that if we could socialize the kittens, they'd be able to adopt them out. Since we'd had no luck with the kitten giveaway via Facebook and asking people we knew personally, this became our primary hope of them finding new homes. Permanently adding them to our personal kitty pride just wasn't a viable option.
So the three little kittens (one of which HAD mittens) were brought into our master bedroom to hang out with people. And over time, these three little kittens became very friendly little kittens! They love attention, want to be petted and played with, and were ready for their new home.
So Friday morning we took them down to OAR with enough food to last them a month. OAR was obviously run by people who have genuine love and concern for the felines, and we'll know they'll find them great indoor homes!
The picture is of Cleo, Copy & Paste at OAR awaiting their new forever home! And we may just find ourselves doing some foster care work for OAR to help them socialize more kittens.
A quote from our friend in North Carolina that captures the spirit and intent of these posts:
"I do not share my stories of paying it forward for recognition. I share them so that others might be inspired to do what they can, when they can, where they can. No more, no less." Tish Lloyd, North Carolina REALTOR®
