Sunday Morning Picnik with Kristine Ginsberg and Gayle Rich Boxman

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with ViewHomes of Clark County - Nature As Neighbors

This Sunday morning I enjoyed a Picnik with Kristine Ginsberg and Gayle Rich Boxman.  Kristine and Gayle are two women who inspire me. They are great photographers and both share their knowledge and tips with a generous heart.

One of their favorite places to play is in Picnik. It's a free photo editing program that can help ho-hum photographers, such as myself, appear better. Yes, I said free. Although, for $24.95 a year, you can upgrade and get additional features.

So far, I think there are enough free features to keep me busy. This morning's editing effort in Picnik really showcases the profound difference a bit of tweaking can make to a photograph. I was giddy with the possibilities.

As I played in Picnik today, Kristine and Gayle were with me only in mind and spirit. However, I couldn't help but ask myself, "What would Gayle or Kristine do?" So ladies, it's with a great big thank you that I present my three before and after photos.

I sure hope you approve. Here's Ho hum Tomato photo before. Ho hum Tomato Photo

Here's an interesting tomato photo after a few minutes in Picnik.

Most of these were edited using the Matte, Drop Shadow, and Museum Matte features. They were also slightly color enhanced, and on the Hydrangea photo, I used the Waterfall feature.  They are all free tools.

Thanks again Kristine and Gayle for the inspiration and for sharing - those are two of the best qualities that represent the spirit of Active Rain.

ViewHomes™ grew out of our passion for nature, beautiful surroundings, and peaceful environments. Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. We now enjoy our lifestyle in a rural environment, but with close proximity to metropolitan areas where we appreciate all the amenities of fine restaurants, shopping, and an easy drive to an international airport.
Living in ViewHomes™ is like having “elbowroom for the soul”.

Good post, Debb.  I, too, have got to learn how to use Picnik. I am in the process of setting up a photo blog on WordPress.  I will need to improve my photographs for the new blog.

Have a great day and a most productive week.  Be sure to have your camera in hand for those special moments.

 Life is good!

Debb,

For sure one can see the clear difference. Thanks for the tip as I will have to try this program as most of my pictures are real hum ho. I have heard og it but I just have not spent the time to investigate.

Thanks for your comment on my market report regarding Firethorne. I agree with you these days the Green Master Planned Community are a focus for both  builders and consumers.

I'm gonna join you in your picnik!!!  This is on my agenda to do today.  Have a story mulling in the brain (with all the noise in my background :) ) and as soon as that's on paper, I'll break out the basket.  Cute post, great pictures.  Does it also have the watermark feature?

Anita - my fav is the tomato plant too. Just made those tomatoes jump off the page.

Joan - Kristine is the Mistress of making photos pop - her skills are just amazing.

Fun Anna - be sure to share your before and after Banana photo - I'm dying to see it. Thanks for the Tude feature - made my morning. :)

Roy - your photos are already so beautiful - imagine some of the things you could do in Picnik!

Jeanean - you said it very well. That's exactly what Picnik gives us.

Bob - always a pleasure to see you. Yes, your Firethorne Community intriques me. I think you will enjoy Picnik - instant gratification. :)

Mimi - you will LOVE it. There are sepia and softening affects that would be perfect for your vintage touch. I know Picasa - base of Picnik offers the watermark - so, once you save it to Picasa - you can add a watermark before exporting it.

Hi Debb, I too love picnik..use it all the time...but I've not tried the drop shadow OR the waterfall features. WOW! It's amazing how it can make some ordinary pictures (beautiful in their own right) and make them "pop"!

Thanks Rebekah - I can see how it could get addictive.  I'm sure there are many more cool features I've yet to discover.  Thanks for the visit. Good to see you.

Hey Q-man, hope you're doing better. I'll come visit and see how your friend is doing.  Glad to hear you're familiar with Picnik = it's easy breezy for sure. :)

Hi Cindy - I really like the drop shadow a lot  This was the first time to use the Waterfall feature - it doesn't always work. But, yeah Picnik can put some wow in the ho-hum. :)

Debb, great job on the photos. I especially like the way the gold flowers turned out. I haven't visited Picnic lately but it is a great tool.

Look at you GO, GIRL! You showed me some new techniques...it can be SO addicting, watch out!  I absolutely loved the way they all turned out. It's funny, I didn't know what the extra cost would be to get some of those featured/premium add-ons, but I may have to step it up. Thanks so much for the mention--what a sweetie you are--Kris inspired me, so it's nice to pay-it-forward to others.

Donna - isn't it funny how we don't all have the same favorite photo? My husband liked the hydrangea photo the best - I think he fell for the Waterfall trick. :)

Gayle - well, thanks, but I have a long way to GO. I suppose how far one goes is dependent upon the photo skills to begin with - and that's where I really need to "go." :)  Glad to see you and I hope your multiple deals are coming together nicely.

Debb,

You're lucky you have such good friends in the RAIN. What you've done is exceptionally well! I tried on my own after getting inspired by Rob's work; but it didn't go very far. Your post is a true motivator! I just love what you've done. You are all an inspiration to me.
