Preparing that Stylish Guest Suite!

Prepare a stylish guest suite with inspiration from these tips:

1. Create an environment that promotes a great night's sleep and a place to relax.  Make the bed comfortable by adding a thick duvet and lots of fluffy pillows.  High thread-count, 100 percent cotton sheets are a must.

2. Stock the guest room with recent magazines and a few interesting books, and put together a small snack tray or a basket of light snacks and bottled water.

3. Provide freshly cleaned bathrobes in the closet and place rolled bath towels at the foot of the bed in case your guests would like to freshen up when they arrive.

4. Hang a small mirror in the guest room to provide a spot for touching up makeup or putting on jewelry.  A long dressing mirror is also a nice addition.

5. Provide enough table top space or empty drawers for them to keep their "things" while visiting.

If you want a space that's dressed to the nines but you must decorate on a dime, follow these guidelines for high bedroom style on a budget.

1. When in doubt about color, choose taupe.  The deeper the shade, the more drama it denotes.

2. Blend Textures and tones, spend more on the most important elements - bedding - and less on the accent pieces - accent pillows.

3. Shop in your house before you go shopping.  The nicest accessories could be those with personal meaning.  Find new uses for old things.

4. Metal accents don't have to match.  It's okay to mix metals as long as they look earthy and aren't overly polished.

5. When shopping for bed linens steer away from dry-clean-only fabrics and look for multiweave, washable fabrics that require less care.

6. Inexpensive wall decor can add color and interest.

And when it comes to preparing the bathroom for guests, just remember what a hotel will supply and add to that extra packaged tooth brushes, tooth paste, disposable razor, etc. for their convenience.

I like the high thread count feature.

I can't remember how many times I've been somewhere where the sheets feel like sandpaper.

What a great idea for a post!  I need to spruce up our guest room a bit. I just put on a new comforter and pillows and now you've inspired me to put the finishing touches together.  Thanks!
