Apparantley a rumor was spread over the weekend that Facebook was going to start charging for people for having profiles, prompting many users to post the following status:

FACEBOOK JUST RELEASED THEIR PRICE GRID FOR MEMBERSHIP,$9.99 PER MONTH FOR GOLD  MEMBER SERVICES,$6.99 PER MONTH FOR SILVER MEMBER SERVICES,$3.99 PER MONTH FOR BRONZE MEMBER SERVICES, FREE IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. WHEN YOU SIGN ON TOMORROW MORNING YOU WILL BE PROMPTED FOR PAYMENT INFO…IT IS OFFICIAL IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS. FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES. IF YOU COPY THIS ON YOUR WALL YOUR ICON WILL TURN BLUE AND FACEBOOK WILL BE FREE FOR YOU. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON IF NOT YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED IF YOU DO NOT PAY.

It's just a hoax!

On the opening page of Facebook, it states just above the invitation to join: “It’s free and always will be.”

This has been floating around FB since day one. I never ceases to amaze me how many people fall for it each time!

It is crazy how rumors start and get flying around the Internet! Nobody looks up anything to confirm that something is correct or incorrect! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Bryan, I haven't been on Facebook much at all this weekend and never saw this in particular, although I saw something else about the possibility of being charged for Facebook.

I saw this starting on my FB sometime yesterday afternoon, by the end of the day it was being copied and reposted like crazy. It's amazing how some people can be so easily duped into these false notifications.

While it isn’t always Facebook’s fault, sorting through the spam messages and virus messages and malware is getting old.
