Get Hosed...
Well, it looks as if our ‘ol buddy, ‘the Flipper’, has been hard at it playing plumber once again. <sigh> While inspecting a “flipper” in the Nashville, TN real estate market, once again, I good laugh at the expense of the "remodeler". (Term used in the loosest sense of the word) If you want to see how not to install the drain line for a dish washer, feast your eyes on the picture below!
I believe in "repurposing" building materials as a way of keeping stuff out of our land fills, but this one takes the cake! I reckon our old buddy, the "flipper" had some garden hose in the back of his “pick ‘em-up truck” and decided… Well, you get the story. So much to be said about thinking and going green…
I wonder if this would qualify for the new "Green Building" certification? NAH!
What's sad is that there are so many good guys out there doing remodeling and rehab - but the ones we notice are the corner-cutting flippers.
Flippers do like to paint everything thinking it hides the shortcuts. Glad inspectors always catch them! Good job.
For every person reading this and posting about how awful it is, there are probably ten that would never have noticed it but won't admit it. That is why you hire a home inspector.
Inspectors should always find stuff like this...I have to agree that that hose is likely stronger than what came with the dishwasher, but it is clearly improperly installed...
How many times do we see these types of substandard installations, Michael? I also don't like the horizontal run installed at the garbage disposal drain!
Amen to not knowing what to look for let alone understand what I'm seeing.
Too funny! I can tell you as a Green realtor that this is not green, nor does it qualify for a green certification! I know you know that but had to set the record straight! Amazing that somone thought this would pass a home inspection!
It is truly said that when you think something is fool proof you have forgotten just how creative fools can be.
Sometimes saving money... and other things cost you more. Be smart.. use common sense first.
I think I have to agree with Jay #3. This hose may not be specifically intended for the purpose it is being used but does it present a problem for the home owner? I think it is overkill and while it certainly does not look professional I question whether it violates any code.
That's one I haven't seen before, lol. I always enjoy reading home inspector's posts, they are always entertaining.
I am a heavy duty DIYer...I used a radiator hose as part of a drain pipe in a super small crawl space. Not code, but we had to have a sink drain.
Well at least he tried to paint it white to match the plumbing. Thanks for the post.
Michael, did they really think it would pass an inspection...you have to wonder about people...just what are they thinking??????
Hi Michael, I love you post! And it amazes me how many times you see "the flipper" at work!
