And My Fortune Cookie Said "The Best Profit of Future Is In The Past"

By

Tonight, my friends Cheryl and Monica and I had Chinese food from the Uptown Cathay, our favorite Chinese delivery place.  Peter Yan, the owner, used to be a real estate agent - in fact I hired him back in the 80's when I managed the Georgetown Office for Shannon & Luchs, my first broker.

When we called to order, I said, "Peter, I need a really good fortune cookie tonight."

About half an hour later, we had our crispy beef, General Whatsit Chicken and some kind of broccoli at the front door.  And the bag had a fortune cookie for each of us, including the subject of this blog, which I got: "The best profit of future is in the past."

Now, last night, I signed up for the Turning Point Retreat.  It's all about turning each client into a maniacal fan who refers you business so you never again have to:

  • Make cold calls
  • Pay Safeway a ton of money to put your face on grocery carts
  • Work with obnoxious strangers who respond to ads you place in your local paper

Or anything else that has you begging for business from strangers.

I mean WOW!  This is soooo prophetic!

Before I take off for Richmond, I'm going to call a bunch of my past clients and schmooze.  And if I'm lucky, some of them will have people who are as much fun to work with as they were who they can call to say, "Call Pat."

My fortune cookie that I got a couple of nights ago said that "Great wealth is coming my way."  At first I thought of money and I went "Oh Yeah!!"  But then I thought of my wonderful family. friends, fellow Realtors, etc. and I realized I am already a very wealthy woman!

Patricia, I am also attending the turning point in Phoenix in November.  I have been following his basics for a long time now.  When I follow his system, my phone always rings.  So go to to retreat, it will be awesome.

As for fortune cookies, I have to share a funny little story.  About 10 years ago a good friend of mine and I went out for his birthday for chinese food.  When they brought the check and gave us our fortune cookies, he opened his up and it read "No Luck This Year".  I thought what a horrible fortune cookie.  Who gets a fortune cookie like this?  Well my friend ended up having a really lousy year.  He lost his job, had to move back in with his parents, had his car totalled in an accident.  I still tell the story to this day.

Patricia, good for you signing up for The Turning Point Retreat -- I am sure that Brian Buffini will appreciate your support in this trying time in his life having just lost his home.

Like Gary, I also have a friend who got a bad fortune cookie (I didn't know they made evil fortune cookies).  It was early winter and the fortune read "For better luck you will have to wait until Autumn."  We called over the waitress and complained about the bad fortune.  She apologized profusely and loaded us up with about a dozen extra cookies.

Eric, now that message is pretty ambiguous - it doesn't say why!  Maybe you'd find a heavy box of treasure and need the rope to get it back to your car?

And Armando, you have a most healthy attitude toward the whole thing!

Joan,  my cookie might have read, "You will have heartburn after overeating Chinese food."  And I think the cookie is the fun part of the meal.

Sandy, you are a wealthy woman!  And you could be in for the other kind of great wealth - go for it!  We are in a business where you can almost print money.

And, Gary!  Yikes!  Having to move back with parents has to be hard.  I hope things get better for him!

Keith & Robin,  I am pretty psyched and ready to learn!

And Brian,  I am totally grateful to Brian Buffini for being in Richmond to keep a commitment during a time in his life and business when we'd have understood if he didn't show up.  This guy has to be as awesome as I've heard he is.

Faina, I'd forgotten about the blogging possibilities!  I should be able to really milk this one!  I just spoke with a friend who is doing the Buffini program through Long & Foster, and she said the Turning Point is the way to go!   I'm psyched!

PATRICIA:  You will walk away from Turning Point with a lot of motivation and inspiration.  It is a great place to be.  This one should be particularly powerful, as I'm sure that Brian Buffini will bring forth some unique inspiration, having just lost his home to the fires in California.  He is truly an amazing speaker, and gives you more for the money than any other speaker that I've ever seen.  Enjoy, and please report back after the Turning Point.
