The photo doesn't give enough perspective to judge the size of the "finger" of granite pointing toward the heavens.  It's 80' tall!  Only a handful of Tucson's buildings are taller.

Tucson Hiking Guide: Mike in Tucson, AZ mortgage lenderBetty Leavengood's Tucson Hiking Guide, available for sale at Saguaro National Park's Red Hills Visitor Center in the Tucson Mountain District, has a good description of the trail that leads to Finger Rock.

This is not a hike for the fainthearted!  You'll achieve a vertical climb of more than 3,800' and you'll want to take water and calories.  Here's one hiker's review of the trail:

This is a pretty difficult hike, with numerous stretches that are very steep and poor footing. The hike to Mt. Kimball is 10+ miles. View at the top of Mt. Kimball spectacular. Be sure and go to the far east rock outcropping on top, where you get a terrific view of Mt Lemmon, and all points north and west. Took about 7 hours round trip, and going down took almost as long as coming up. Recommend you have a copy of Betty Leavengood's Tucson Hiking Guide, which will keep you on the trail, when the trail gets a little difficult to follow.

Hi Mike~

I always look forward to  touching bases with you. Your photos are amazing. As I look at these, I wonder how long it would take a hiker to reach the "finger"...and..is it even possible?

Mike, it actually looks so small! Funny how when you're hiking you think you're almost there only to find it very far away still!

Mike, it is amazing how God created the Finger Rock Trail, it does look like a finger.  Round trip 7 hours in the heat need to drink plenty of water.

I'll keep the light on for you!  :)

Thanks for saying so!  This is a magnificent time of the year in Tucson.

That I did!  Thanks for stopping by; I'll see you on your blog.

Thanks!  Isn't it amazing to be able to capture what we see digitally?  Makes me wonder what John Muir would have done with our technology...

God's creation is a thing of wonder, and I'm blessed to live here.

Perspective makes it look that way.  It's awesome to stand near it.

I hope your most recent visit will not be your last!  Come on back.

It's not only possible, it's done every day this time of year by people just like you.  Check out the link for more information.
