Tonight start the Jewish New Year!!!! Our holidays go from sundown to sundown. As usual, it doesn't matter how late in the secular year the holiday falls, I am scrambling.....
This is a time that I usually take to reflect on the year that was and look towards the year that will be...... It is a nice time but not like the secular New Year filled with parties and fun...... We reflect.....We Pray....We eat..... Even on holidays that we fast we eat before and after.....
As a Jewish Real Estate agent in Boise I sometimes have to explain why I wont be writing the offer on the holiday.... I warned my client that I needed to know before 2 PM today if they wanted to act or they would have to wait until the holiday was over.... Turns out the husband is half Jewish....I find myself scrambling to get ready for the holiday....I seem to be the matriach of my all things Jewish in my little world..... For the first time I accept the chicken soup from my step-mom ..... My housemate finishes the challah while I sleep..... I miss my mother on holidays we used to make together.....Only one child can make it home....They are now scattered.....My oldest in Bejing and the middle in Troy, NY..... I want them to be with me but they can't be with me. My Dad and step-mom will get the youngest from college while I cook....
In our busy world it is always important to take some time out to reflect on important things.....Sometimes our lives seem to be concerned with deals....making offers, getting clients, inspections, listings, closings (if we are lucky).... We sometimes ignore the very important.... our spouces, our children, our parents, our relatives and friends...... Today I will try to transfer myself so that by the time I arrive at synagouge I will be in the moment not the secular world.....
La Shana Tovah! May you be insribed in the the book of life!
If you have a Jewish friend or client it is time to wish them a Sweet New Year....La Shana Tovah!!!!
