Well, it came and went, but what a week in Key West!! The culmination of this year's Fantasy Fest was the Grand Parade last evening. Duval Street in Old Town Key West was blocked off for the event, which featured elaborate floats, many of which were almost Rose Bowl Parade caliber. Unbridled fun was the fare for the evening, with float passengers and operators flinging brightly-colored beads to the bystanders. Terri and I and our quests must have amassed several pounds each of this "jewelry" around our necks by the time it was over. As you might immagine, the streets were filled with debris everwhere when Fantasy Fest wound up for this year in the early hours of the morning. We're heading into Key West now, to "play tourist" with our guests, and we will find the streets absolutely pristine-they do a great job.
Our guests are my Mom and my Aunt, from Orange, Virginia, my home area. On our way in, we'll be stopping by the Sugarloaf Lodge for brunch. You've go to see this place to believe it-perfectly preserved 1950's! The dining room fronts on the Gulf, and there is a basin right out the back door where you look down into the crystal-clear water at thousands of teeming Red Snapper, Mutton Snapper, Yellowtails, and other fish-very cool.
I am very thankful that the California fires are coming under control. I hope everyone has those folks in their thoughts. A AR friend, Charles McDonald, of Charlottesville, has posted a series of photos sent him that are really worth looking at.
Have a wonderful day, everybody!
Your Florida Keys REALTOR, Bruce Herndon
