Another Late Wordless Wednesday in September for Car Buffs

I hate to even show this here because only a very few were ever built, exactly 3 to my knowledge.  You have some beautiful lines and symetry in an American powered exotic which never came to fruition however what a fantastic vehicle it was.  A Peter Monteverdi masterpiece from 1970.  That's right it's a '70's vehicle which puts to shame almost everything that existed in it's day.  Hope you enjoy it!

Hi Kevin, Well, that is the first time I have ever seen or heard of a Peter Monteverdi.  Looks like a beautiful vehicle.  Wow, 180 mph?  This would be quite the show piece in someone's collection of impressive vehicles.

Alexandra, the original "violet" colored Hemi version is roaming in or very near it's homeland, completely reconditioned.  I have conflicting information about it's sale price that it sold for $1,100,000 US and also 398,000 euros in January of 2010.  If the latter is true then $541,000.00 or so sounds like a steal to me.  It may have also been 2 sales, one before and one after it's refurbishment.  The other two hai's are located at the Montevrdi Museum in Binningen, Switzerland.

Awesome car and photo of it.  Only three were built?  I will have to do some reading on that one.

Judi, when you delve deeper you'll find there were two more that were built many years later but there's something intrinsic about being an original.  The initial plan was to build 50, that never happened.

I apologize Sandy, how'd you sneek in there!  206 on the drag strip and 171 on a road course are my maximums so far.  I'm still searching for a 1 bedroom home with a twelve car garage.  Got any over there?

This car is a luxury, how much is it anyway, or is there a price tag on it?  You should be in cahoots with Jay Leno, have you heard—he likes cars too!

Funny you say that about Jay Leno because even though he collects great and interesting cars he doesn't let them sit around, he drives them.  For me, owning a car to look at just does not seem right.  If you break it, so be it, get it fixed.  Who knows when this one will hit the auction block again Dee.  All I can say is start saving now if you think you'll want to cruise down Rowland St. through Covina any time soon in it!

Kevin,

Now that's a dream car! The Monterverdi hai 450 SS looks like a combination of an old '69 Barracuda '70 Dodge Challenger, a Corvette, with a little bit of a Pontiac '67 GTO.

I love how sleek it looks. I'll bet it has to have black leather seats. Can you imagine taking that beautiful car out for a test drive? I've always been addicted to sports cars. In my younger day, I used to be able to persuade the salesman at the dealership to let me take it out for a test drive. When they asked me how I was going to pay for it, I just looked them straight in the eye, and said, "Why cash of course! They never questioned me, and I always drove away confidently, then returning the keys saying, "I'll have to think about it!"

Oh those were the days!!!

Patricia, when you say "in my younger day" I'm thinking that this was this past Tuesday at the latest.  You know your stuff, I'm sure there'll be no questions next time the urge strikes either.  Have a nice ride!

Dee, don't feel bad, I've only got $7.00.  Let's see what tomorrow will bring?

Renee, all you need to mention to him is that it's 2,700 pounds of Hemi with 450+ horsepower.  He'll know how to handle it from there.

I'll admit, he did just what he set out to do and that was to be the giant killer Charles.

It's in the name Eric, Monteverdi hai 450 SS, there was a 375 version also.  Being that this was a 426 cubic inch Chrysler Hemi, they were underated for insurance purposes and I can almost guarantee that at least 525 horsepower was eminating from between the seats here.

Wow!  I am sure if that car existed in plastic form today that motor would blow off the quarterpanels!

ShackDiva, you get it!  There are times to use the brakes and others to mash the throttle to the floor.  A hemi will make you choose the latter.

So sleek looking...and sweet. I have never seen this car. Too bad they did not go forward with its production.

Sussie, the company owner, Peter Monteverdi accomplished his goal by developing an industry leading exotic which rivaled the Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Maseratis of the day.  They scorned him by saying that the Swiss could never develop a car which could match their levels of performance.  I believe it was by 1971 he had the Italians eating crow.  It was never revealed what wine best complimented that dish!
