Red Feather Lakes, CO - The willy wacky world of wheel estate and the wife

“He thinks he’s going to move me to Colorado to be out in the middle of nowhere so that he can hunt and fish all day,” she said.  “But, I’m not going!”

My first contact was with her husband who said he was looking for hunting land; I was calling him to make sure he had received the listing information that I’d sent.  He hadn’t mentioned his delightful wife or any plans to build a home on this land …

He wanted hunting land.

When his wife answered the phone we had a nice conversation about the type of property she wanted and it sure wasn’t hunting land! (read: opening line)

What we have here is a failure to communicate!

Now, I have no intention of jumping into the middle of the marital real estate fray.   I’ll send some other listings that may work for both of them but I worry….

Why didn’t he tell me about his wife?

Or building a home?

Or that nearby shopping might be nice?

Maybe he just wanted the hunting land and intentionally forgot to tell me the rest?

Call me silly, but if you’re married and you intend to stay married it’s generally a good idea to consider your wife.

But then again, because he wasn’t home, I don’t really know his intentions and that’s disturbing.

Visions of Jeremiah Johnson, riding away alone into the wilderness, flash through my mind.

Real Estate/Relationship Tip:  When an issue is critical and you both are passionate about it, make a point to examine the pros and cons so that you can come to a compromise with each other and your real estate agent will have all the necessary information to help you find the right property.

Mary, this was TOO FUNNY, but so often the pair is split on what the important factors are!   Good luck, and hope you sell one (or maybe two) houses to this family!

Love your wit as always!  This happens way too often.  Luckily though there are men out there that will share what their wife is looking for also.

" . . . . . . like the man who went out for milk and never came back."

Perhaps the milk man was already a frequent visitor!!!

Mary, I think you need to sell the wife a nice building site in GVM and sell the husband about 40 acres of hunting land nearby.  Now that is COMPROMISE!!!

Now there is a home I could spend the rest of my life in and never have a regret.  A nice open floor plan, with earthy materials, and many windows to an outstanding landscape.  I'm not much of a hunter, but I can certainly see how one could live off the land in that location!

I should also mention that the words "marriage" and "compromise" are synonymous:-)  The process is easier for some than others.

I don't think I agree that the words marriage and compromise are synonymous. I think it's important to compromise in a marriage, don't get me wrong -- I encourage my husband to compromise every chance I get. :)

Hi Sharon, it might be a bit tricky finding something for both of them, but I have a few ideas.

Hi Joan, it's my first experience where they are so VERY far apart...I like your idea of 2 houses!

Debra, it's true, usually there are compromises here and there and thank goodness most spouses work together to find something that fits for both.

No Bruce, not the milkman!:-[  I like your suggestion, too - that would definitely be a solution! No Dairy Queen cake, but thank you - I'll take the rest of that one :-)

Myrl, I love that home in the photo, it's so beautiful and comfortable.  I think the wife would like it, too....the husband will have to drive a bit to hunt, but not too far.  You're right, some are better at compromise than others!  :-)

Elizabeth, well....somebody has to do it! LOL

Mary -- Love this story and it's certainly not the first time I have heard similar or even experienced it myself.  I like your relationship tip. That is so true if there is going to be a transaction both parties are happy with...and they should BOTH be happy....can't just be one-sided.

Mary this happens more often than you think.  A real failure to communicate, forget the hunting land if the wife is not interested.  Great advice communicate and compromise.

Things can get very messy very fast especially if you're handling a divorce sale of the home too, Mary. Sounds like these two need a marriage counselor and I'm sure you don't want to be it. I'll take that beautiful home in the picture.

I'm sorry to get back to this post so late.  As far as I know there has been no compromise...and it's hunting season now...

Thanks Ann, I'm sure it happens a lot, these two are worlds apart in their wants and needs.  October is almost over, I hope you celebrated all month.  I'm old - I forgot! HAHA! :-)

Jennifer, thank you, I have doubts that they can compromise on this one, but we will see.

Toni, I agree- marriage counseling isn't my area of expertise.  The home is a perfect solution since hunting is nearby but I haven't heard back from this out-of-state couple, yet....thanks!

Tammy, that's a sticky situation but I do wish I had his cell phone so that I could talk with him about his choices.  Wait, his cell probably wouldn't work where's he's hunting though!
