I know that I tend to share my excitement about what I've seen and done with everybody I meet - I've always been that way. I think at least some of my success in real estate has been because I've shared my genuine excitement about living at the foot of the mountains in western NC - I wasn't born here, but got here as soon as I could - with those considering relocating here.
Well, I talked so much about lessons to be learned from seeing the movie Moneyball that my office here in Morganton (NC) has decided to close early today and go see it together! (See my earlier musings at Real Estate and Baseball and Moneyball and ActiveRain .)
My most important takeaway from the movie was that with the advent of computer technology, use of it can apply to almost anything in life - including putting together a baseball team logically and - relatively - economically. The movie also portrays a GM putting together individuals with diverse talents and using them for those talents to achieve success.
Kinda like a real estate office - we're all "stars" in our own rights, and though we may come to the same goal in different ways. Some of us are community cheerleaders (and leaders!), some prefer sticking closer to the office and staffing the front desk for walk-in traffic and phone calls, others are great closers, some are great tech gurus, writers, bloggers - well, you get my gist. But we all have a contribution to make to the office, and are all valuable in our own way.
I've been in management before - both as the Vice Provost of the University of Miami (in a whole other life), and as broker/owner of a real estate office here. I'm lucky enough to have been able to choose my transitions, and 4 years ago transitioned from ownership back to working as a broker associate, and I love it. I believe I'm doing what I do best. That also allowed my husband to transition into retirement, something he was ready to do and loves.
All of this because I saw Moneyball? Well, no. But I love it when things in life come together to make the bigger picture clear!
