Thankful for a Kick in the Teeth

By
Home Stager

They say, whatever doesn't kill us will make us stronger.  I think there's a lot of truth to that statement.  I've always tried to see the silver lining - the blessing in the misfortune, the learning opportunity in the failure.  When I saw this quote, it really resonated with me.  I just had to share it....

"All the adversity I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me....you may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you." ~Walt Disney

Trying times, like the ones so many of us are experiencing right now, call for lots of inspiration.  We'll get through this.  [What other choice do we have?]  And hopefully we'll come out of it better, stronger and smarter.

I agree! It's tough to live through, but I'm so much stronger in so many different ways when it's done.

Karen, I don't always understand why what is happening when it's happening, but almost always I can look back and go "OH, that's what God was working on!".  We just need to keep on, keeping on! :)

Karen:  I am sorry, but I think it is so much easier to speak these words if your name is Walt Disney than it would be if your name was Karen Bernetti or Karen Anne Stone.  We just continue to do what we can, and find blessings wherever we can.  My thoughts are with you.

Karen: We learn very little if anything from the good things that happen in our lives---I agree with the fact that in order to learn from our experiences, we need to really feel something...pain will do that!!

Deb - Sir Winston Churchill is one of my favorites too!!

Liz - what other choice do we have really?

BLiz - we never appreciate it when we're going through it, that's for sure.  But that lesson comes later....

Karen Anne - Walt Disney perservered though A LOT of tough times before he made his dream a reality.  I for one am really glad he did.  I am very inspired by him - not for his success as much as for his ability to overcome adversity.

Paula - isn't it wonderful that we're wired to forget pain (otherwise we'd never have more than one child!)

Joni - With you as our cheerleader - no other outcome is possible.

Karen Anne - you make an excellent point - as always

You have given many of us a gentle "kick in the teeth" and inspired us to stick it out. Think you took a bit of your own advice.

Welcome back, my friend!

Karen, as long as we LEARN from the things we've done, we'll be stronger.  When we don't realize it's an opportunity to grow, that's when we make our biggest mistakes.

These sentiments are very true, but oh so much easier to believe when you're not in the midst of the tough stuff.

Karen, any time of misfortune I have experienced seemed to be insurmountable at the time, but they really turned out to be life adjustments and a re-start, and all proved fine.
