Sometimes I can't believe our good fortune to live and work in these mountains of Western North Carolina. Most people have never heard of little known Fines Creek in Waynesville and I suppose some of the neighbors there are just fine with that. I'd heard of it of course, but had never had the chance to check it out.
Funny how opportunity will sometimes present itself. For us, it came in the form of a referral in a very roundabout way. We have listers who live in Asheville but own a historic farmhouse property in Dillsboro that we represent. Our clients happened to engage someone in Asheville in a conversation about farmhouses. Turns out that this person has a cousin in Colorado looking for a farmhouse here in the mountains. Our sellers of course suggested their property and gave this person our contact information. We got in touch with the Colorado cousin and sent information about our listing. Unfortunately, it was just too small for their needs. Turns out though that the cousin had spotted a farmhouse in Fines Creek that she wanted to possibly consider and felt that she wanted buyer representation on it. Okay! We can help with that!

So today I drove out to Fines Creek and fell in love with the area. Farmland, rolling hills, mountains, valleys, farmhouses, barns, cattle and horses lined Highway 209 while I journeyed toward the property in question. It was so easy to visualize how this area must have looked a hundred years ago.
I'd always thought of Fines Creek as beng a great distance from Waynesville but it turns out that this particular property was only about 15 minutes from town. I checked out the property and took my time on the way back...after all I had the camera with me and had to stop, didn't I?
It's probably a good thing that I had an appointment to go to. Otherwise, I'd probably have stayed out there until sunset!
Autumn colors are just now beginning to reveal themselves in Fines Creek just outside of Waynesville. Somehow, I need to find the time to get back out there again before the season ends.
