Checking In On Facebook: The Good

By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Florida Network Realty BK 3030920

I have not yet toyed with Foursquare, so the Check In option on Facebook on my new  Droid is the alternative I have started using.

Checking In alerts people as to where you are, which can be good, bad or just ugly, depending on what you are doing, who you are with, etc. Seriously, there are times/places where you might not want to "publicize" where you are and what you are doing! This is a good story!

I decided to visit my favorite watering hold, The Sun Dog Diner, in Neptune Beach. This a locally owned, operated, and green restaurant/bar with live music every night of the week.  Fabulous menu with sandwiches, burgers, famous meatloaf, salads, entrees, appetizers, full wine list, full bar - you should check it out the next time you are in the area.

Sun Dog Diner

My good friend Larry, who I had not seen in quite some time, came in and we talked for a quite a while, catching up on what we have been up to personally & professionally, his kids, his grandkids, you get the picture.

Towards the end of the evening, I told him I was glad we had this time to chat, since we don't see each other as often, and that is when he mentioned the reason he came up was because he saw I had Checked In at Sun Dog...how cool is that?

Carol,

when you said you might not want to publicize where you are, I was expecting a totally different outcome.

I'm glad you were able to connect with a friend.   Last year I reconnected with somebody on Facebook and ended up selling a house for him.

Facebook has been a wonderful way to keep reminding your friends that you are a realtor. You don't have to bombard them with constant real estate updates, but I like to post when I have a closing or listed a home.  I reconnected with someone from high school after 20 years and I will be listing her house middle of October.

I love reconnecting with people on Facebook but honestly I don't publicize on Twitter or anything else where I am at the minute...moment. I don't care where you are and really don't want you to know where I am that is just creepy.  If you are a good friend and I want to see you, I will call you.

I haven't used this type of feature more from a safety perspective.  I guess if I want to see a friend, I would rather pick up the phone and call.

Carol,

I have connected with many on FB.  I even keep touch with family there.  I guess in the long run, it is much easier, especially with the chat option.

Carol, I signed up for Foursquare, but, it really didn't work for me.  Facebook, on the other hand, has been a constant routine that I have, every day (almost).  My family, firends, Buffini members, and clients keep me posted with their interactions.  I don't friend local agents, because my clients are on my social sites.  I haven't tried the location feature, yet.  Sounds like it worked well for you:)

Carol - I've used the checkin feature for several months now, and It's really cool to find out  that your friends are sometimes in the same building. It happend to me when I was eating at one on my favorite places last night.
