Living the the heart of the world renowned 1000 Islands provides us with interesting characters practically on a daily basis. We have visitors from around the world, walking our streets and boating on the St Lawrence River, touring our 1000 Islands.
This summer, our islands were being scouted by Bertram van Munster - known for creating The Amazing Race and taking it around the world 17 times!!! He personally selected the 1000 Islands for his new show called The Great Escape and considered 2 of the 1000 Island castles: Singer Castle and Boldt Castle for his pilot episode which will air in the next few months.

"Both Singer Castle and Boldt Castle wer e approached for the pilot episode, and while both castles are loved, Singer Castle was selected because of their passageways," said Thomas Weldon, the general manager of the castle.

"The show transformed the entire castle, 30,000 square feet, into a very locked down structure" (all the better to make escape difficult one would presume!)
Filming took place on September 14th and 15th. Approximately 100 people were working on the island - 50 - 60 from the entertainment industry and approx. 40 people that were hired locally. He estimates that $100,000 was brought into the community for the filming of the TV show.
He further says, "The entertainment industry gave the castle back to us better than we gave it to them!" They fixed all the passageways and completed a lot of the work through the summer before the filming crew arrived.
Make sure to look for The Great Escape coming to a TV near you!
