A Winter Checklist

Besides changing those filters, here a few things to add to winterizing your home.  Wrap the hot water heater in an insulating jacket.  This can actually save energy costs.  Check exterior light bulbs.  With it getting dark earlier, its nice to have a light to get into the house.  Timers are great to have to automatically turn those lights on at dusk and off in the AM.  Check the attic insulation.  Seal any holes you find.  Outside the lawn should probably be mowed until the first frost.  Check the gutters for leaks.  A bead of silicone caulk is great for sealing them.  Make sure the downspout is pointing away from the house.  Power wash and seal the deck.  Now, get yourself a cup of coffer with that delicous pumpkin spice creamer (yum), put your feet up, and cuddle in your favorite chair.  Winter time cometh!  Gina Gulliford, Long & Foster, Columbia, MD

Good post. when I lived up north we would put plastic on the windows to keep the cold out.  Worked like a charm.
