Baby Steps....

Do you ever feel you can't make a difference because of the enormity the challenge in front of you. I've found many of feel that way, in our business lives, as well as the difference we can make in the world. I often tell my coaching clients to focus on just three things each day. Take baby steps toward a goal. This will still keep the momentum going in the right direction.

In the April Body and Soul Magazine, I loved this article which was titled Do Just One Thing. It included the Great Going Green Checklist. Looking over the checklist and reading the article, I realized again how the little things can make a difference, especially when they become cumulative and exponential.

This past year, I have been raising money for CARE, the humanatarian organization.  I have been struck by the enormity of the need AND with the difference that even a small contribution can make. ($50 pays for a year of school for an Afghan girl!) The http://www.webwomengivingcircle.com/  was excited to be the giving circle that raised the most for the More Magazine Challenge last year. Six of us went to Peru in May to see CARE's work. Many of you helped that happen with your contributions and I am very grateful. There are pictures and our day by day story on the blog. You see how the money you sent is making a difference in the lives of others. A little can mean a LOT!!!

So, whether it is a business challenge, an exercise program, the environmental difference you can make or a philanthropical donation, remember little things make a difference. What little things can you implement this week???

If you are up for making a difference in the world...

Here's how to turn $25 into $100

I need your help again. CARE is sponsored a day of action on October 17, so this seemed appropriate to ask you now! We had pledged $100,000 and I am even more committed than ever to helping expand CARE's ability to provide amazing, sustainable programs that are raising the living standards and opportunities for women and girls. So far this year, we have added another $8273 mostly through the efforts of Bernice Ross's Really Awesome Women in Real Estate Conference and the $5000 prize (thank you Active Rain!!!!) that Frances Flynn Thorsen and Mary Pope-Handy won in The Inman/Active Rain Blogging contest. That leaves us about $68,727 to go to keep our word on our pledge.

Here are 5 ways I can sweeten the pot for you. I am giving back as well:

Donate here

1. I am offering my Awesome Year Planning Guide*** for any donation of $25 or more
2. Your money will be doubled! My husband, Bub, and I will match every contribution*** (up to $1000 total)
In, addition, MORE Magazine has some incentives:
3. By donating with this link in any amount, you'll be entered in a contest for the 2008 Escape With MORE at Miraval Spa
4. If you contribute $75 or more, MORE will send you a bottle of Market Salamander Lavender Champagne Vinegar, an exclusive product from Sheila Johnson's Market Salamandert.
5. During October, donations will be matched (up to a total of $10,000) by Businesswoman and CARE Ambassador Sheila C. Johnson This means your money will be doubled AGAIN!!!!!

So your money will be quadrupled, you get a Planning Guide, a chance to win a Spa Vacation and you make a difference in the world.

Will you help? Donate here

And, if $25 is too much for you today, even $5 or $10 will make a difference (if every reader donated $10, we'd raise $80,000!) And, if you can afford it, please give more!

***To get your 2008 Awesome Year Planning Guide and/or have Bub and me match your contribution:
1. Donate through the link above
2. When you get your receipt, forward it to me
3. I will then send you a link for your free guide and/or match your donation !

Dear Joeann,

I just got back from Podcamp Boston and I got more than a little overwhelmed at all the new technologies I learned about.  My brain turned off completely by about 3pm the first day of the conference and it wasn't until the next morning that I could begin to integrate any new information.  But today I am taking it one step at a time.  I've been adding in the new technologies one at a time and I've already added in four new pieces today alone.  (Only a billion more to go.)  It is just a matter of only looking at one thing at a time and doing just that thing.

Kelle, You are one very wise woman!!!! One thing at a time is the way to move forward without overwhelm. Sounds like you did a good job of prioritizing before implementing!!!! Thanks for stopping by!
