GET YOUR SPOOK ON! ~ ELLICOTT CITY GHOST WALKS ~

Historic Ellicott City is not only known to have a haunted history but also has a reputation of being the most haunted city in the State of Maryland! Why, we can only speculate but it may be due to its past as a mill town or the fact that it was built on granite. Perhaps it is because ghosts are said to be attached to antiques - Ellicott City has plenty of antique stores along and around Mainstreet. To satisfy people's curiosity the Howard County Department of Tourism offers 3 Ellicott City Ghost Tours YE HAUNTED HISTORY OF OLDE ELLICOTT CITY . Local guides are dressed in period clothing and retell the stories shared by Ellicott City's residents, retailers and restaurateurs.

The Ghost Tours run from April - November but are obviously most popular in October - so please make reservations or you may not get to go! Tickets can be purchased at the Visitor Information Center: 8267 Main Street in the historic district and are $13 Adults and $11 for children 6 - 12, Seniors (65+) and Active Duty Military.

Historic Ellicott City Ghost Tours
evening walking tours around Mainstreet
take about 60 - 90 minutes
Part I Fridays 8:30 pm
Part II Saturdays 8:30 pm

Spirits of Ellicott City $20
takes you inside some of the haunted locations
enjoy a drink while listening to the ghost stories (drinks not included)
2nd Thursday of each month at 8 pm
must be 21 or older

Other times and private tours may be available, please check with Howard County Tourism Council 1(800)288-8747.

My husband was born on Halloween - yes, occasionally things do get creepy at my house! ;-) On his birthday last year I surprised him with an Ellicott City Ghost Tour to enjoy with his friends.
Did he possibly see one of the Union Soldiers vanish into the night or hear unexplained noises or even feel his pants tucked on? I'll keep that a secret ... you'll just have to go and see for yourself!

Hi, Andrea -- this IS a spooky post!  I had no idea that Ellicott City was considered the most haunted town in Maryland.

I believe that "Blair Witch Project" was supposed to take place in Maryland, wasn't it?  And I have to tell you that the photo of the tree you have in your previous post is very reminiscient of that movie!!!!  you've got me spooked out, right now!

Have a great weekend, Eric ^0-0^

Hi Joan, we visit the historic towns of Maryland quite often, Ellicott City among others, and have experienced some spirits ...

Hi US Mortgages: Thank you and you do the same!

Hi Terri: That's the beauty of localism posts! Thanks for dropping in!

Hi Carole & Laura: My husband is into everything Ghosthunters & Paranormal ... according to him it was a lot of fun!

Hi Eric: I'm not sure if creeping you out is a good thing ;-) You are right about the Blair Witch Project - I've now added it to my list of October blogs! I'm loving this month! I'm glad you liked the tree! I took the picture on one of our hikes - I thought it would be a great one for slowly setting the mood!

Hi Ralph: Thank you! The lady in the video is also one of the guides ... that should give you a good idea!

That looks like a lot of fun.  There's a ghost tour in this area too.  Maybe I should check that out this year.  It could be interesting.  Of course it would be a Confederate soldier down here.  8-)

Hi Jeff: Thank you for the link - loved it! I'm not so sure about the haunted houses - niche, however, I would have to request my husband retire from active duty and hold my hand full-time - I don't do too well alone in the dark with a ghost roaming next door. :-)

Hi Evelyn: Historic Ellicott City has a lot more to offer of course but the Ghost tours have become very popular ... and there's something to it, I know!

Hi Mike: Go for it.. I'm looking forward to reading your blog! You'll need to gear up with a couple of things at a minimum though: infrared camera and digital voice recorder! You got to make the most of it! ;-)

Hi Sandy: Thank you - very popular in October & full moon!
