One day last week, My husband and I decided to visit the Sunshine Farm and Gardens in Renick, WV, off of Friars Hill Road. The drive was absolutely beautiful on this one lane road. Once off the main road, Route 219, we drove about 13 miles up and down mountain roads,

but once at the top (almost Heaven), the view was breathtaking.....

While picking apples, the farm's black horse named Morgan, wanted to have an apple snack ....... she stayed around eating apples and looking at us!

For the next two weeks, you can pick apples FREE at the Sunshine Farm and Gardens......we picked two bags of golden delicious apples...and I made a great tasting apple pie...

It was a fun afternoon and a most enjoyable ride to "almost heaven" ... the Sunshine Farm and Gardens.

I'll be writing a post on the Sunshine Farm and Gardens and the owner Barry Glick, so please check back!

Donne, Morgan was soooo friendly, we just kept throwing apples to her and she followed us around while picking the apples. Most of the apples were at the top to the tree and had to use a pole catcher.

Thanks for sharing this. Beautiful photos. I grew up on Unus Road near Frankford, at the corner of Unus Road and Chestnut Flats Road, on our beautiful old farm, the old Brant place (Brantville). My stepfather was Roy Brewer, and my mother was Mary Brewer. How I miss home!

Thank you, Rebecca! I would love to come for a visit. Perhaps before too much longer. The old home place is in other hands, and my parents are gone too. I have such a nostalgic nature that it pains me to visit. I haven't been back to Lewisburg in over 20 years. You may know where I grew up, at the corner of Unus Road and Chestnut Flats Road. My stepfather and mother, Roy and Mary Brewer, built the house in 1969-1970. The house is white now. At the time I grew up there, the house was a blue-gray color. Very nice house, pretty big two-story, built on the original foundation of the old George Brant house. Frederick Smith and family later bought the place from my stepfather in around 1988, I believe, and somewhere down the road, after Mr. Smith's death, it was owned by the Hedrick family; now another family whom I do not know. Nice home, originally on 155 acres. Now I believe just 5-1/2 acres surround the house. We raised usually anywhere from 50-100 head of Black Angus and Hereford cattle. We always had a few horses. My mother, Mary Brewer (died in 1978), was a real old-time homemaker: Canned, raised beautiful gardens and flowers; apple cider making time; delicious ramps; homemade apple butter. Mom would color the apple butter red by putting cinnamon sticks in it. And, of course, there was the State Fair. As a family, on the first Saturday of the fair, we would go and sit in the grandstand for the horse-pulling contest (7:00 a.m. sharp!) and harness races. It was a magical time growing up in Lewisburg for me as a boy. I graduated from Greenbrier East in 1978. At the age of 19, I left the farm to pursue a career as a court reporter. I'll let you go now! I've written a virtual epistle! Sorry. Thank you for inviting me back home.

Thank you, Rebecca. I am happy that you enjoy living in Greenbrier County now. I used to have two Siamese cats named MERCER and Mingo -- ha! Take care. And thanks for letting me share some memories.
