Dismal Swamp State Park

Morehead City, NC real estate professional and ActiveRain blogger Amy Hahn shares her discovery of the Dismal Swamp State Park.  When you go to the website for the park, they provide links to the Civil War history in the area.  This is interesting to my because my father's family lived in Camden County, NC at that time.  Thanks to Amy for providing this information.

Dolores and I will plan to visit the Dismal Swamp State Park the next time we are in the area.

Dismal Swamp State Park, North Carolina

Dismal Swamp State Park
I have lived in North Carolina for years, and never knew about the Dismal Swamp State Park until this weekend.  My family and I headed up to Williamsburg, VA on Friday afternoon to meet up with some great friends for a fun-filled day at Busch Gardens (more to come on that later).  On the drive up, we pulled into a rest area off Hwy. 17 near the Virginia State border to find the entrance to the Disma
l Swamp State Park.  As we left the rest area, we grabbed a brochure and hit the road.  After a long, fun and exhausting day at Busch Gardens, we decided to wake up and hit the road early on Sunday Morning allowing us plenty of time to explore the Dismal Swamp on our Journey home.  Boy, am I glad we did!

Dismal Swamp State Park

What a beautiful place to waste away a few hours.  They have a fabulous boardwalk that is perfect for a walk with kids. They also have 22 miles of hiking trails that meander through the forest and alongside the Dismal Swamp Canal.  The Visitor's Center is not huge,  but offers lots of educational and hands on exhibits.  They also have bicycles available for those who want to hit the trails on wheels.

Dismal Swamp State Park

I highly recommend adding the Dismal Swamp State Park to your list of places to visit.... But, don't forget your camera, It is absolutely gorgeous!

Just one more reason to love North Carolina (in case you needed one)! For more information and for Park Hours, visit the Dismal Swamp State Park website at www.dismalswamp.com.
