Landlord Appreciation Day

By
Industry Observer

There's only one Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Valentines Day, Grandparents Day, Administrative Professional's Day, etc. each year.  In the case of grandparents, they often share their day with up to three others.  Great grandparents don't get their own day, so they have to share Grandparents Day which is already a little overcrowded.

The one person who is honored, not once yearly, but a dozen times each year, is your landlord.  The first of each month is Landlord's Day, or Landlord Appreciation Day if you choose to call it that.  He doesn't get anything from Hallmark, but he always receives a nice present.  Every month renters around the world, even in Minnesota, honor their wonderful landlord with a monetary gift.  You pay his mortgage, his taxes, his dog food bill, with enough left over for his retirement fund.

After you pay your landlord's bills for him, you can pay your income tax which is probably a higher effective rate than Mr. Landlord's.  You see, he gets help from the government to rule your life with an iron fist.  He gets tax incentives.  You're sure wonderful to partner with the government to make your landlord's life better than yours.

Some folks may be getting a little impatient with giving a substantial part of their hard earned income to the guy who won't let them decorate or have a dog.  Then there are others who will always be satisfied working hard to keep up their landlord's lifestyle.

It's your choice.  How many Landlord Appreciation Days will you continue to celebrate?  If you're on a month to month lease, you could probably get by celebrating only a couple more.  It's not as difficult or expensive as you might imagine.

As I am no longer actively working with clients, I can offer no assistance other than encouragement if you decide to stop celebrating Landlord's Day every month.  In the meantime, Happy Landlord's Day, or if you are not supporting a landlord. simply Happy Holidays!

Maybe I'm ignorant of all the benefits my landlord is receiving because of my hard work, but his business is 4 houses down the alley and I see how much work he puts in. And he is the a fantastic landlord. Other than structurally changing the house, he says "do what you want, it's your house." He always tells me he appreciates me for paying on time and keeping the house and yard looking great. And when anything goes wrong, it is done, pronto...literally the next day unless contractors he hires have other obligations to fulfill before, which is seldom...So, hats off to all the landlords who work hard for their families as well as taking care of their tenants😊

Lana, most landlords are very good people, and most care about their property enough to maintain it properly.  The issue is that all the value is in the landlord's court, and it could be in yours if you chose to be an owner.

I have the world's greatest apartment manager. There should be a landlord's day...or an Apartment Manager's Day. She's the greatest!
