Email seems to be the most prevalent way of communication in the world and we are on the forefront of a New Era of Communication and Living Socially on the Net.
Which brings me to keeping your information updated on Active Rain. 
When we get a lead that is outside of our "comfort zone", and if we don't have a contact, we do one of three things.
The First, I go into my gmail and type in the city name followed by the word "referral". That way, if I have worked with another Active Rain agent in the past for the same city, it will come up in my email search.
The Second, use the Active Rain Referral portal. This works very well and we have had some GREAT agents working with clients that had their start in the contacting of my team. In fact, I'd say we are batting 1000 on the "Rain" - Eat that Redfin :-)
The Third. I use the second and third interchangeably, depending on the mood I am in. I will log in to Active Rain and use the search feature.
Keywords that I use are: City name followed by the word agent. I look through the first few results and then copy and paste the contact's information and their needs within that email that is sent by the A/R system.
However, this does not work unless you are keeping ActiveRain updated with your most current email address.
Which brought about this post. Go through your AR contact information, sign up to be on the Active Rain Referral System, keep your personal information, company, the "about you" page and other Active Rain information updated.
It will pay off. If others cannot get an email to you to refer business - they will go to someone else :-(
