The passing of an era. It was the greatest time in the history of technology.

The passing of an era. It was the greatest time in the history of technology.I read with much sadness about the passing of Steve Jobs yesterday. He was an amazing innovator and one of the giants in the world of technology.

To me it seems like only yesterday we were all introduced to the world of personal computing. It was a relatively new concept that an individual would have access to a computer at HOME, and that information could be manipulated and stored.

Using a personal computer wasn’t so easy back in those days. Most did NOT even have a hard drive and required the cumbersome use of tape drives and then floppy disks. In many cases a program had to be hand coded, with each instruction laboriously entered one keystroke at a time.

In a sense, we were all pioneers back then as we moved further and further into unexplored territory. But someone had to blaze the trail first.

Although I chose to become a disciple of Bill Gates and a Beta tester for Microsoft, I appreciate the contributions of Messrs Jobs and Wozniak in the promulgation of personal technology.

And I look back on those days with fondness, as we all worked together to build what we have today!

I agree with you. I have a close friend battling cancer so it hit me as well. What wonderful products he helped envision and more importantly, Steve Jobs was the perfect point person for his company. He was genuine and interested in what he did and his passion truly was contagious.

Paula...

His life was relatively short, but his footprint was HUGE. Thanks so much.

Ellie...

And he lived to see Apple achieve the level of success that it deserved. Thank goodness for that. And thank you for the comment.

Steve Jobs contributed so much to our world of technology. I liked his attitude and will miss his presence.

Hi Richard -

Very nice tribute.  I don't see anyone filling those big shoes in the near future.  Mr. Jobs was one of a kind never looking back but always to the future.  Beautiful leaf and appropriate for the post.

Best regards from The Q

Oh, I know, it' so incredibly sad.  He was such a visionary and innovator.  A true role model for so many.

When one that has made such an impact and left a legacy to carry on leaves us, it is a moment of reflection of the contribution made.  He was truly a well respected visionary who did not let short term failed ideas and stumbles get him down.  Look what was just announced hitting the market the day before his death, the technology advances continue thanks to his commitment to improve and creative outlook.  He will be missed.

I wish I had accepted the technology that Steve Jobs was pushing many years ago.  I would have been further ahead today.

This is the second post I read tonight on this subject - and it's nice to see so many comments - Steve Jobs just may be remembered on the same level as Thomas Edison and others that changed the world with their inventions.  Thanks for the post, it was a nice tribute - And having been in technology when Steve Jobs first emerged, it's a particular moving to see so many remember him this way ...

Steve was a visionary, no doubt about it - in spite of how I resisted Apple products for so many years. I remember my first computer - I bought it second hand from where I used to work - it was an old IBM and was really nothing more than a word processor. I thought it was so cool.
