Time to Update?

Here are some decorating ideas from my friend Peggy Zettner at Interior Trade Cartel:

Soaring temperatures and a record drought are hopefully behind us as we await the cool, crisp air of autumn. Think ‘family dinners, holiday parties and entertaining friends and neighbors’!

This is the season when we begin to assess our homes with a more discriminating eye. As many homes in Inwood are surpassing the twenty-year mark, your home may be showing signs of “design fatigue” or just plain old age. The good news is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to bring your home into the 21st century. Realtors familiar with the Inwood community are finding that updated homes are selling quicker and for higher prices, while the tired homes of the eighties and ninties sit on the market, screaming for a little ‘make-up’!

A savvy designer or decorator can help you repurpose furnishings in your home, adding new textures and colors to create a timeless and sophisticated interior. New sustainable materials are emerging in eloquent, natural color palates. The use of warm, muted color tones will fill your home with a serene atmosphere. Add a bold punch of color to draw attention to a focal point. Purchase a mirrored armoire or a silver leafed chest for a touch of classic contemporary. You can’t go wrong if you stay in tune with the architecture of your home and “dress it up” with some haute style!

Just as you go through your closet and toss out your fashion failures, it may be time to look at your home through the eyes of a designer and bring on your style!
