Last minute hotel deals for 2011 NAR Convention in Anaheim, CA

I wish NAR would block hotels at some other hotels for their conventions other than $100-200 a night facilities.  I have to pay for the travel, the convention, hotels, meals, etc., out of my own pocket so I try to be frugal.  I have negotiated some pretty good deals at other hotels nearby and blocked them for the next week at prices ranging from $55-$75 (plus standard fees/taxes) instead that are still walking distance to the convention center.

I have ten rooms reserved at each facility so let me know if you would like one of these rooms.  You might even check into the ability to cancel other existing reservations so you can buy me a cup of coffee for saving you some money and we can network.

I even found an option for a 2 star hotel for much less but it was about six miles away and the savings can be eaten up in parking fees and time pretty quickly.

One of the great things about this is that I just give you the codes and you book the specific type of room you want (subject to availability) at the hotel directly.  You give them your credit card data, not me!

If this goes over well, I will do it on a larger scale in the future.

Please feel free to reblog this so people can learn about it and save some money.

I do appreciate you sharing. I have a friend that is going to NAR. I will share your information. I went last year, and don't want to spend the money this year. I'm going to take a long weekend vacation with the family instead. I did just get back from our state convention in Denver. It was wonderful.

@Debbie, Thanks for sharing!

Another great option to save money this year is to buy just the "Expo Pass" for $35 instead of the full conference registration for $380.

I learn more walking the trade show floor and talking to the owners and managers of the companies directly than sitting in a lecture hall listening to a canned speech by them!

I've found you have to pick and chose the classes. I know I just got done with our state convention. But overall it's great experience. The exhibit hall is great at NAR. You are right...you do get a lot out of that. These conventions are all about networking for me. I actually lose more when I go with friends, but I do have more fun with my friends.

By the way I am suggesting this, it really is in the collaborative spirit of AR.

@Debbie, I like the online scheduler that they have to pick and choose classes.  I have probably attended a dozen NAR conventions, 15 state conventions, and another ten national franchise conventions.  I think that is a pretty good testimonial to travel and learn outside your own box.

@Michelle, thanks for the "suggest".  The collaborative effort is the exact reason why I enjoy AR and these conferences. It is so much easier for agents to talk about their business if they don't think you will take the ideas and compete directly with them.

That really is a nice thing to do Jim - I have never gone to the NAR convention, but I know going to these out of state seminars and conventions can get spendy. I'll suggest it too so that others going might see it and benefit from your help - Kasey

Thanks Kasey.  These trips are also a great way to take forced working vacations to fun places and write them off as a business expense.  Sometimes we have rented a large home and split the costs too.

I just got word that the Clarion is now sold out.  Better hurry and book before the best rates are gone.

I have several other hotels that are further out that would require a bus or taxi to get to the hotel, but if we blocked a group of 10 with similar schedules, that might still be a good option.  Feel free to send me a private message for more details.

Hey Jim,

Good info for anyone attending NAR this year. You're also right about the parking at the Convention Center...a little pricey for every event there.

Also, I was looking for an AR event at NAR and this post was the first to pop-up...did I miss it, or do u know if there is an AR gathering?

I stopped by the AR booth and they admited there was no AR function this year.  Not even a Rain Camp since they are all virtual now.  I think they missed an opportunity!

I was commenting on a blog the other day here on ActiveRain about how they used to have a booth at the NAR trade show.  I Googled it to find out how long ago and was pleased to see my blog show up to provide the answer 3 years later.
