It is pumpkin season! The leaves are changing, and the wind is biting, but that is easily tolerated with a fall visit to the nearest pumpkin patch. Central Oregon boasts several seasonal pumpkin patches, most located north of town past Redmond, on the way to Terrebonne.
DD Ranch is one--located at the base of Smith Rocks. It is a working cattle ranch, but at this time of year hayrides and a petting zoo draws the crowds. Entrance to the pumpking patch is free, with only slight fees for an obstacle course, hay rides, and of course...pumpkins!
After you've taken those pumpkins home and carved them, the leftover seeds can be baked into Roasted Pumpkin Seeds, recipe courtesy of craftzine.com.
