Katy Texas was recently named by Business Week magazine as the No. 2 fastest growing residential community in the United States. This report entitled, "America's Biggest Boomtowns", was based on new home growth from 2000 - 2008.
Katy Real Esate has many well-established neighborhoods that maintain the warm, friendly, small-town atmosphere. There is a wide range of resale housing available, and a few historical-type cottages still exist in downtown Katy. Suburban family neighborhoods surround Katy proper while acreage, devoted to farming, ranching, and equestrian pursuits still come on the market.
Several up-scale master-planned communities blend the Memorial West neighborhoods with Katy, and Houston's westward expansion has further fueled the robust growth of the area. Firethorne is a wonderfully unique community which is situated on 1,400 acres West of Houston where the coastal plains transition to grasslands. Amenities include, tennis courts, a resort-style swim center, and approximately 150 acres of greenspace and parks, a large scenic lake surrounded by walking trails, and wildlife observation areas. Homes from national builders are priced from the mid $100,000's to the $800,000's. Residents have easy access to Houston using the recently expanded I-10, and to other parts of Fort Bend County on FM 1463 and the Grand Parkway.
Cross Creek Ranch is a great addition to Fulshear with a rustic Texas feel and the latest in technological infrastructure. The community opened in the fall of 2008. The natural habitat surrounding Fulshear creates a relaxed lifestyle and inviting environment. Homes in the area start at $200,000's and trend upwards to $2 Million.
The Katy Independent School District offers great educational opportunities for children. Other school districts in the area are Fort Bend ISD and Lamar Consolidated ISD, and all the districts have outstanding performance records. The University of Houston and Houston Community College both have campuses in Katy, and two Lone Star College campuses are close by with a third campus opening in Katy in 2011.
The Katy Mills Mall is a very popular shopping spot that features over 200 of the best brand name manufacturers at the retail outlet stores, a themed restaurant, and a state-of-the-art 20 screen movie theatre.
