Bates Technical College in Tacoma is the largest public technical college in Washington. It has been operating since
1940. Bates operates on three campuses and has over 600,000 sq feet under roof for teaching, training, meetings and support processes.
Although full time enrollment is only about 1,500 students, there are normally about 14,000 students who take classes at Bates every year.
Bates has involved the community, but working with about 500 community members (business leaders and workers) who help make sure the training is applicable to the real world.
