Back in 1978, after graduating from The University of Tennessee, I made a decision to move to Hilton Head Island and practice Real Estate. Thirty Three years later, I can reflect on that decision and realize that Real Estate was the perfect career choice as it has allowed me to enjoy a lifestyle that most people dream about.
Real Estate has taken me all over the Lowcountry of South Carolina where I’ve experienced beautiful beaches, marshlands and bountiful wildlife. Just recently, I was camping with friends at a nearby Island where we enjoyed fishing, crabbing and the surrounding natural habitat.
One morning, David Stegmeir, a good friend and professional photographer from Beaufort South Carolina stopped by our Island for an early breakfast. Since it was a Blue Sky day in October, we decided to capture the surrounding scenery in photographs. Our trip started with photographs of Snowy Egrets, Ring Billed Gulls, pods of Dolphin, oysters and the surrounding marshes.
Then, just before Low Tide, we came across a site few rarely see; Pods of Dolphin were Strand Feeding! According to National Geographic, “the marshes and estuaries surrounding Hilton Head Island are one of the few areas in the world where Dolphin practice this unique way of feeding”. David was able to photograph the event from start to finish.
First, the dolphin start by rounding up bait into a ball.
Next, they herd the bait up to a muddy marsh bank and flip the fish onto shore with their tails.
Finally, they breech themselves onto shore and while lying on their side, they enjoy the catch. After Dinner, they slide back into the water.
Practicing Real Estate on Hilton Head Island has allowed me to enjoy most of the wonderful activities, sports, hobbies and events that this beautiful Island has to offer. By capturing these events in still photography, clients and would be travelers can enjoy the natural surroundings as well. I often post these adventures to Hilton Head’s number one Real Estate website, However, I’ve found that posting to Active Rain creates the most comments and questions.
