What a great time at the Cupertino Tournament of Bands on Saturday night (October 8th, 2011).  The annual event is hosted by Cupertino High School.

You have to excuse my pictures, as I broke my camera and was using a loner type.  :)  We all brought jackets, food, blankets and really enjoyed the 4 1/2 hours of feild shows by local favorites!

TOB

The event drew dozens of bands from around the bay area, and towards the end of the evening the stands were PACKED!

Cupertino High School

My Alma Mater was in the house!  Cupertino High School, the Host Band was on display too!

Saratoga High School

Saratoga High School was one of the larger bands.

TOB

Homestead High School was/is one of our bands local to Cupertino and is one of 10 bands nationally picked to be in the Rose Parade this year.  And of course, they stole the show!

TOB

I tried to snap a picture of the awards that were to be given out that night.  Again, my camera was a small digital while I wait to replace my awesome camera that I kinda... broke...

Chris, nothing better than getting out and supporting any local event. I would have been there right with you in the stands.

Marching bands a must, I swear half the time at soccer practice I'm watching the band practice lol

Enjoy the day

I'll be watching for the "how I kinda broke my camera post" Chris.  And boy did this post take me back.  My daughter is a trumpet player.  Marching/concert both.  All those competitions back in middle and high school.  In fact today I was telling a story about my last speeding ticket rushing her from a softball game where she played to the football game 4 counties away so she could be there for the halftime show.

Great that you went out and supported this competition and gave the winners some extra recognition.

Chris,

This looks a lot like our area's Sound Fest" where HS bands compete.  They really sound great!

Chris - Thanks for ramping up the "home teams" on the musical front!  Now it will be like I almost know one of the bands in the Rose Parade!

Like Tammy - I think the "broke camera" sounds like a pending post!  Be well ...

Well, Chris, first of all, BUMMER that you broke your camera!! Secondly, for the most part, you captured it so well that it took me back to my high school days and the Friday night football games--SO exciting! There is something about the evening that makes it that much more dramatic and fun. Wow, I haven't thought about those times in, well it seems like FOREVER AGO. It also reminded me of romance. It also reminded me of my college band at West Virginia University--they were fantastic. They played at a Steeler's game in Pittsburgh and ROCKED IT. I remember one of the gals was actually blind and once you could pick her out, you saw her fellow bandmembers help her on the rare occasions that she would misstep--pretty cool, because they had intricate routines.

Chris, kids can learn so much about life from being in a great marching band!  Keeping the lines straight, staying in step, concentration, and working with a hundred or so other people.
