Last month we launched a new program, "myFirstAm". In a nutshell, First American has implemented a new system to process title and then did something amazing, they released and end-user version that mirrors our internal system. Our clients can see the progress we're making on their files in real time, receive automatic text and/or email notifications as updates occur, view docs & surveys from prior orders, and more. Very cool and it's free.
To get the word out I started the engine and did what almost always works to move a new product; one-on-meetings, phone calls, emails, texts, etc. Something unexpected has happened however... I'm having very slow adoption. I started making phone calls to clients whom I've sent invitations to find out what the holdup is. Almost universally the response was one of two things; "I haven't had time and forgot about it" (a sign that I need to improve my marketing) and two, "I didn't log in because the password requirements are too difficult".
In typical MAX mode I immediately picked up the phone and called corporate, "We have to change the complicated password requirement immediately". I enlisted the support of our local branch manager, my 8 counterparts in the City of Houston, my VP of Sales, and our Division President. I was on a mission to remove any roadblocks that would prevent my clients from getting what I know is a great tool and I didn't care if the company was going to have to recode the whole system to make it happen. The response was simple, "This a secure system and it's not likely that we're going to make it easier for someone to log in and view another agents files".
Shortly after my ranting a good friend and counterpart texted me, "Get Roboform". I returned to my computer, went to www.roboform.com. Roboform is free, it's a tool you download to your web browser. It automatically generates simple and/or complicated passwords, and saves them to your toolbar. It then goes a step further. Once you have given it the particular login and password for a site, it auto-fills the required fields and then automatically logs you in whenever you go the site. The few minutes it takes to setup will save you gobs of time in the long run. It also has apps for the iPhone, iPad, Droid and Blackberry that syncs all your passwords, logins, and more with your browser. No matter where you are, no matter whose computer you're on, you can log into your Roboform account and get access to all your logins and passwords.
If you're anything like me, you have upwards to 40 unique logins. No way, no how can I remember all of them. Programs such as Roboform promise to make life easier. It's already working for me!
