Saturday, October 15: Reap What You Sow
Fall is a busy time on a farm! Learn all about it and try your hand at farm living during Farm Harvest Day. Watch the cider press in action, milk a goat, shell corn, peel apples and meet the farm animals. Paint a small pumpkin, play farm games and see traditional farm demonstrations. Watershed Clean-Up Day: Be part of the International Coastal Cleanup! Join individuals, students, families, scouts and other community groups cleaning up tires, bed springs, bottles, cans and other debris from the watershed. Wear boots, old clothes and bring gloves. Fall Photographers' Field Day: Join the fun for group photo opportunities or take pictures on your own. Meadowlark's gardens will be open before sunrise and will close after sunset. 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. $5/person; some activities have additional fees associated. Studio 3 Theatre Presents Schoolhouse Rock Live!: Tom, a school teacher nervous about his first day of teaching, tries to relax by watching TV when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. Sunday, October 16: A Bird in the Hand
Learn how to create an appealing environment for birds in your backyard with Audubon at Home. Cliff Fairweather, a naturalist for the Audubon Society of Northern Virginia, will give a presentation and lead a short walk to see brush piles, wildlife pools, pocket meadows and other ways local homeowners can create wildlife habitat on their properties and how the Audubon at Home program can help. 2 p.m. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens.
