On a Road Trip To Chemainus, BC.

Road Trip to ChemainusLinda and I had a little road trip to Duncan this week, and in the process we had an opportunity to take a few pictures along the way, which will turn a few topical posts, but these few seemed to connect them all.

It is rather interesting that we somehow (unintentionally) took pictures of some real and made belief the railroad stations along the way.. For today we will stick with the pictures...... Although I will leave you with the one question I asked myself today,

Why are we trying to re-invent the "Track"...........Again?
Many of the Train and or Streetcar tracks abandoned (permanently or temporarily) we are considering now for an LRT system, have a history going back more than 100 years.

Hi Than,

I did actually know that, one more thing we learned in school that seemed important at the time....

Although we are pretty certain the Old Roman Chariots never made to Victoria and Vancouver Island ;0)

Peter and Linda, isn't there something romantic about an old train station?  There are a couple of them locally that just seem full of hidden stories...

Peter & Linda, looks like you had a good trip. We have an old train depot in storage here in Burlington. It seems no one can figure out what to do with it so it sits in the back of a fire station lot ;).

Hi Janice,

Old trains and old ships have so much to do with the society of the time they where designed build and used, they often represent the best of the era. We tend to protect buildings and art, not so much our industrial heritage, Come and Visit our Vancouver Island, and much of our heritage is just sitting around waiting for us to enjoy and appreciate.

Peter and Linda - great pictures ..... there is a lot of history and heritage wrapped up in old trains and boats ..... for today's generation they are simply a tourist attraction ..... we on the other hand are of the age where we have heard many stories about them first hand from our Parents, Aunts and Uncles who lived through that era.

ps you likely have already guessed that I love old railways stations

HI Kathy,

we where thinking of you when we pulled the pictures togehter.

coming from a country where trains are an absolute essential part of the public transportation network, I have never figured out what makes us in Western Canada not have a much smarter approach to taking benefit of its opportunities.

Linda, I enjoyed your pictures! So very much! We are always trying to reinvent something aren't we? Like TV's, from 8 tracks to tapes to CD's to what ever is next! These pics were filled with a charm of a quieter and heathier life and lifestyle. I sure enjoyed this. Thank you Linda. Hope you had a wonderful time on your trip!
