Largest Gathering of Songwriters in the World - Coming to Gulf Shores!

Frank Brown International Songwriters FestivalThe 27th annual Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival will come to the Florida/Alabama Coast on November 10-20. This 11-day festival has been declared the largest gathering of songwriters at one time in the world and voted as one of the 20 best events in the Southeast. Last year's festival had 190 songwriters in 26 venues with 378 separate performances!

The Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival is an event developed to support songwriters and musicians from around the world.  New songwriters can have their songs heard and also the attendees can enjoy songs they know, performed by the writers who created the songs.  Songwriters range from proven Grammy Award winners to the up and coming stars of the future.

Not only is the music and talent a draw for the crowds who come to this festival, but the perfect fall weather in Gulf Shores and surrounding areas, the  beautiful beaches, and Gulf Coast activities add to the highlights! The Peridido Key Chamber of Commerce hosts the Celebrity Songwriters Golf Tournament on November 14 at Lost Key Golf Club. Those interested in participating can call 850-492-4660 to register. Several local resorts and hotels are offering special Songwriter Festival rates. You can find a list at the Festival's website. Several venues along the coast from Pensacola, FL, to Gulf Shores, AL host the performances, and you can also find this list on the website.

Check the "Who's Playing" list on the Songwriters Festival website. The list is updated frequently as names are added to the 2011 lineup. The talent described is incredible!

I like the story behind the name of our Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival. Frank Brown was the night watchman at the Flora-Bama Lounge and Oyster Bar for 28 years. He was known by all as "Mr. Frank" and was 91 years old when he retired! All of the regulars knew and respected Mr. Frank; his integrity and strength of character will be long remembered. As his bio states, "Mr. Frank wore a pair of matched revolvers, slung low, but he didn't have to use them. Usually it was enough to say, 'Now, you boys don't have to be like that. What would yo' mamma say?’ " The Songwriters Festival carries the legacy of Mr. Frank - his spirit lives on in the celebration of the music.

The Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival has an atmosphere of collaboration and support along with its spirit of fun and entertainment. That's also a good description of our Gulf Shores and Orange Beach communities. This is a great area to call home, and I have many options available.
