My First Trade Show Experience! Positive Networking in Many Ways!

I received an email recently about a trade show from the Leduc Chamber of Commerce, of which I'm a member. It told me I could have a table for free should I want to participate.

Having never done a trade show, I emailed Sally Weatherley, home stager extraordinaire and asked her if she had ever done one. She sent me two photo's of her set ups and encouraged me to go for it.

They were great pix, but I had been told I had 4 feet of space and only an hour to set up...

So this is what I did with what I had. I thought I would make a display about the entrance and what impression it will make on potential buyers.

Otherwise I was just trying to cram some design into my area. I had a power point display with before and afters and candy (Sally said that would bring 'em in!)

I had a lot of positive response and was surprised at how little educating I had to do because most of the people knew what home staging  was.

Great!

Then I could just have conversations about the advantages!

I also made contact with many people I can refer my clients to!

I also made a biz card draw box for $100 off a Home staging consultation, so that will be nice to give to one of the nice people I met there! There were a few people who said they were moving soon, so I stressed to them to stage it before they put it on the market so it wouldn't get a reputation before it looks great!

Hope you had a great experience at the show Peg. Pictures look good, I like the computer monitor with the photos on it. Gives them a reason to hang around for a little while.  :)

Hi Peg - I think this is the first time that I have heard of a trade show that only gives four feet of space.  That is very small.

Do you live in the Leduc area?  Several years ago, I visited the Leduc # 1 Energy Discovery Centre, the famous museum that celebrates Leduc #1, the first oil well in Alberta and the start of Alberta's oil industry as we know it today.

Tom, it was great having the power point! I had conversations with people while they watched and they were all impressed with the before and afters!

Brett, I did enjoy the trade show and I would do another one, hopefully the next one I will have more room and more than an hour to set up! :D

Laura, I hope so too I get some gigs out of this! I seem to be spending a lot of time networking lately, but I am meeting a lot of great people! Sal Gal is the best!

BU-FU, Sally sent me two photos, I should ask her if I can post them, they were lovely displays, but I knew I could do all that, so the power point sufficed. Meh, the booth was free, what can I say?

Marc, it was a mini trade show for Chamber members to display their biz. I don't live in Leduc, probably a half hour away.

I was right next to Leduc #1 Discovery Center's table, but they didn't set anything up, just came and schmoozed! The interesting thing about the acreage around Leduc #1; because so much oil was cast everywhere the land is just beginning to recover and grow vegetation again...

Peg,  Your display looks so inviting.  You did a great job.  It doesn't even look like a trade show booth.  I bet you had lots of people coming by to visit and hang out.

BB, it didn't really look like any tradeshow I'd ever seen. I was expecting walls that I could hang stuff on but there were only tables. Then when that wasn't happening I found out I could only use poster putty on the walls since the ballroom had just been renovated... Thanx, it's not bad for having an hour to do it all in!

Peggy Sue - You make a Momma so proud!  Wow, you did a great job setting up.  Yeh, an hour to set up and only 4' of booth space sure is limiting, but took your booth to the max!  He he he - was I right about the candy?...  I love your vignette in the background.  I bet this was the best looking booth there!  Congratulations!

Sal Gal! Thanx for the positive feedback! I was the best looking booth, most people just had brochures. (although when I opened up the flowers to arrange them they were all beat up and falling off their stems. Oh well) Too funny, no one touched the candy! I brought it home and Dave took it in to his work to share, because I didn't want it anywhere near me! Maybe next time. Admittedly there weren't a lot of public, mostly chamber members and this was their first stab at this kind of thing, but I drew a biz card for $100 off a home staging consult, so we'll see where that goes!
