cold How To Survive a Cold...Do THESE 5 Things!

I’ve just returned from a 2 week road trip and besides fond memories, some dirty laundry and an empty fridge....I’ve also returned with a cold.  Now, I don’t just get “a cold”.   See if you get something similar... it begins in your head.  You think you might be getting something and this is confirmed when everyone with whom you speak mentions you sound kind of “nasally”.  It then progresses into a huge bronchial thing.

Now... we’ve been told how NOT to get a cold... wash your hands, stay away from people with colds, etc.   However, inevitably you’re going to get one.  I can’t tell you how to cure one either.  Man has been trying for years but we can make you comfortable and then you have to ride it out.

But there ARE things you can do to SURVIVE a Cold and I’m sharing them with you:

1.  To Survive A Cold You Must Be Able to Sleep in Your Own Bed.There’s nothing worse than being on the road when you’re sick.  Get yourself home! (Unless of course you happen to be at “Mom’s” who makes the best homemade chicken soup and knows just how to take care of you).

2.  You must have the best tissue you can..  This is not the time to stock up on whatever is on sale!sneeze  Your nose is important.  It works hard every day to make sure you take oxygen in to breath.... it is your sniffer should something be on fire.  And, as they say.. you get what you pay for and if you do not want a red and raw nose take my advice … spring for the softest you can get.

3.Soup!  Mother was right.  They’ve even done studies on it and it’s true.  It doesn’t have to be home made either.  Just make sure to have plenty of it. I personally prefer chicken soup but since you’re going to be going through a lot of soup, I’d suggest stocking up on a variety.

4. Orange, V-8, Tomato and cranberry.... Drink the juices!  You’ve got to keep your fluid intake up when you’re sick.  If you’ve got a cold you can barely taste anything so juices, at least, taste like something.   You probably have these on hand in another part of your house already... you know the one that has the adult beverages.  Well forget about it!  You have a cold.  Grab what stash you have from the bar and see what they taste like unadulterated for a change.

orange juice5. Airborne and EmergenC.... I make a cocktail of these when I first think I’m coming down with something.  It may not prevent me from getting a cold but it may keep it from going full blown.  There are other similar remedies... Homeopathic treatments such as ColdCalm ® by Boiron.
But here’s what you may not know.... these aren’t for you... you’re already sick!  No, you need these to give to whomever your caregiver is.  I’ve been making these cocktails for my husband since I’ve  become sick.  Why?  Well, if your caregiver gets sick... who's going to take care of you??

So there are my 5 tips for surviving a cold.   Please note... I am not a doctor (goodness knows my mother would have been ecstatic had I chosen med school) nor do I play one on television.   These are my 5 chosen methods for surviving a cold.  You may have your own tips so feel free to leave them here in your comments.

Oh yes.... and to be prudent, if your symptoms persist please contact your doctor.
