Wordless Wednesday - So Far So Good

Our daughter is spending her junior year of high school in Toulouse, France.  Two months down, eight to go.  She absolutely loves it and says if it weren't for family and friends in Pennsylvania, she would never come home.  As her parents, we prefer that over the alternative... being homesick.

Here are a few pictures of her journey so far.  Next week, her host family is taking her on vacation to Istanbul, Turkey.  How cool is that?

Hi Lisa - My daughter has been living in France for two years now and loves it too.  We have visited her three times so far and have to say she is lucky to be there.  It's a beautiful country!  Your daughter will miss it when she comes home!

What a wonderful opportunity for her. I'm sure you miss her a ton, though.

Valerie, I can't think of a better experience for a 16 year old (if they are brave enough to do it).

Peggy, We must be kindred spirits in a sense as our daughters have fallen in love with France!  I look forward to the day I can go visit.

Dawn, I do miss her, but it is not as bad as I thought it would be.  I am staying busy with work, working out and house projects.  We Skype almost daily and her glowing reports makes it easier to sleep at night.

Kathy, Thanks, I thought it was time to provide an update since I talked about her going a few times on my blog this past summer.  Pictures are worth 1,000 words.

Sounds like fun!  Does she have to make up that year when she gets home or does that year there count the same as if she were here?  Reason I ask is that we have friends who had a foreign exchange student from Germany and the year here in the US didn't count for her school there.

Hi DeeDee,

The school is counting the year as long as she passes all her classes in France and then she will graduate on time.  She is taking a 'scientific' track of classes in France which is more academically rigorous than the 'literary' track which most exchange students take.  It sets her back a little bit in that the Chemistry that was required her junior year here, she will have to take senior year.  And depending upon how she finishes this year in math, it will determine whether she takes Pre-Calculus or Calculus her senior year.  But she will take AP English, AP French, and AP History her senior year.  Some colleges will like her doing this and feel it sets her apart; others may frown on the Pass/Fail grades on her transcript from junior year.  C'est la vive!

Lisa
